Rare 65" Antique Victorian Rosewood Pole Screen - Circa 1845
Exceptionally fine and stately English Victorian pole screen, standing at an impressive 65 inches tall. Crafted from richly grained solid rosewood, this piece features the high-relief "C-scroll" and acanthus leaf carvings characteristic of the finest mid-19th-century cabinetmaking.
Key Features:
- Exquisite Carving: The shield-shaped frame and the ornate tripod base feature deep, crisp hand-carvings and elegant scroll feet.
- Original Needlepoint: The screen houses a beautiful floral Berlin wool work tapestry with butterfly motifs, preserved behind its original glass panel.
- Adjustable Height: The screen slides smoothly on a solid rosewood pole with its original brass adjustment mechanism.
- Authentic Condition: This piece is in remarkable "country house" condition. The needlepoint remains vibrant with only light, honest age-toning. To maintain total historical integrity, the screen has never been opened; a small, natural piece of aged wood/fiber is visible behind the glass, confirming its untouched state.
- Stately Scale: At 65" tall and 20" wide, this is a commanding piece perfect for a historic home or a serious antique collection.
Condition Report:
Excellent antique condition with minor surface wear consistent with age (approx. 175 years). No major repairs or structural damage. Beautiful original patina to the rosewood.
